10/4 Story Hour: Alphabets for All Ages

Alphabets for All Ages will be explored at The Buckland Public Library Story Hour on Saturday at 10am. Participants will look at scads of A - Z books, then help Library Liz write the newest book in the genre. (Want to share your family favorite? Bring it along!) BPL is located at 30 Upper Street — just off 112 — in Buckland.

Raffle Drawing on Saturday, Sept. 9/13th at 10am!

Patrons young and old have a chance to win one of several prizes on Saturday — but some have greater chances than others — simply because they visit their library frequently.

Buckland’s Emma Jepsen, 11, a library volunteer and avid reader, has been visiting the library at least once a week since June; each time she walks through the door, she tosses her name into the raffle pot. Jepsen has her sights set on winning a poster-sized photograph of be-spectacled canine patrons of another library. The print is the work of award-winning photographer David Langley, who taught at the Hallmark Institute of Photography in Turner’s Falls during the 2007-2008 academic year.

The gift certificate donated by the proprietor of Shelburne Falls’ Nancy Dole Books & Ephemera has caught the attention of the literate collectors among us. The hand-carved mug, by local potter Molly Cantor, is coveted by neighbors anticipating chilly evenings with cinnamon tea and a cozy mystery. The patron whose name is first to be drawn from the pot by Library Director Liz Jacobson-Carroll will receive her desired prize; those whose names are drawn subsequently will choose from the remaining items.

Would you, too, like a chance to win one of these prizes? If so, simply stop by the BPL this week (library hours posted to the right) to enter before the drawing. There is no cost to enter, but borrowing something to read, watch, or listen to is strongly recommended by the librarian.
